The first meeting of the chief architects of cities of the BRICS countries and their partners took place in Kazan as part of the International Architectural and Construction Forum “Kazanysh”
The event brought together more than 40 chief architects of million-plus cities from Russia, China, Brazil, Iran, Turkey and other BRICS countries and their partners. Ilsur Metshin, Chairman of the Association, Mayor of Kazan, addressed the audience.
Experts in the field of architecture and urban planning discussed the need to create a Committee on Architecture and Urban Development within the framework of the Association.
It is expected to bring together the best architects, urban planners and experts from the BRICS+ countries, which will allow to jointly develop innovative solutions that meet the needs of our communities, as well as share experience, knowledge and best practices in the field of urban planning and architecture.
Today, a list of candidates is being formed for the position of the Head of the Committee, who will be elected at the General Assembly of the Association in Brazil in May this year.
«It is very important that work has not stopped after the BRICS Summit. When we launched the initiative to create the BRICS+ Association of Cities and Municipalities, over 200 of my colleagues from more than 20 countries responded. And this work is actively underway today», said Ilsur Metshin.
During the meeting, they also discussed possibility of launching an information platform based on the website of the BRICS+ Association of Cities and Municipalities, which will contain useful practical content for architects and urban planners of all countries. For example, information about universities and their programs, international architectural competitions, as well as innovative solutions used in other countries.
The International Architectural and Construction Forum “Kazanysh” was held in Kazan on February 6-8. Mayors, chief architects of BRICS cities and, for the first time, representatives of higher education institutions attended the event. The Forum in numbers: more than 45 thousand participants, over 17 thousand unique connections to online broadcasts, 8 thematic panels and more than 115 sessions.
