First meeting of the BRICS+ Women’s Committee in Marica

On the sidelines of the General Assembly of the BRICS+ Association of Cities and Municipalities, meeting of the BRICS+ Women’s Committee was held in Marica, Brazil, on May 27. This significant event brought together representatives of the participating countries to discuss topical issues related to women’s rights, their involvement in economic and social development, as well as the problems faced by women in the modern world.

During the meeting, representatives of Argentina, Brazil, Iran, Russia, and South Africa discussed a number of key topics, including access to education and healthcare, combating violence against women, gender equality in the labor market, and the role of women in decision-making at all levels. The speakers reviewed successful examples of women’s leadership and looked for an answer to the question what role women play in urban diplomacy, establishing economic and humanitarian ties.

One of the central topics of discussion was the importance of integrating a gender perspective into the policies and development programs of the BRICS+ countries in order to ensure sustainable growth and improve quality of life for all citizens.

On the sidelines of the meeting, women-speakers signed a Memorandum of Understanding. It includes the commitments of the BRICS+ countries to implement joint initiatives in the field of women’s rights protection, promotion of gender equality and strengthening the role of women leaders of municipalities. The document also provides for the creation of a platform for the exchange of best practices and successful projects aimed at improving the status of women in the BRICS member states, as well as in Latin American countries.

The meeting of the BRICS+ Women’s Committee became an important stage in strengthening cooperation between the participating countries and promoting principles of equality and sustainable development at the global level.
