We are pleased to inform you about the upcoming significant event in the world of local government — the General Assembly of the BRICS+ Association of Cities and Municipalities, which will be held on May 26-28, 2025, in the picturesque city of Maricá, located on the coast of Brazil. This unique event will bring together representatives of local authorities, mayors, heads of associations and ministers from BRICS and other countries seeking cooperation and exchange of experience in the field of urban governance.
An important point of the Assembly will be the approval of the founding documents of the Associations, as well as the election of the heads of seven committees that will deal with key areas of the organization’s work. These steps will form the basis for the further development of the Association and strengthen its role in the international arena.
The General Assembly will become a platform for discussing topical issues facing modern cities, such as sustainable development, ecology, social inequality, digitalization and innovative management approaches, etc. Participants will be able to share successful practices, discuss new initiatives and develop joint strategies to solve common problems.
In addition, meetings of organizations such as FLACMA (Federation of Latin American Associations of Municipalities) and Mercociudades (Network of Cities in the South American Region) will take place on the sidelines of the Assembly, which will add value to discussions and interaction between participants. These organizations play an important role in strengthening ties between Latin American cities and regions by facilitating the exchange of knowledge and resources.
Special attention will be paid to May 26, the Day of the city of Maricá. This day will be not only the official opening of the Assembly, but also an opportunity for participants to get acquainted with the cultural heritage and natural beauties of this amazing city.
We are confident that the General Assembly will be an important step towards strengthening cooperation between the cities of the BRICS countries and their partners and creating new opportunities for joint development. We invite all interested parties to join this important event and contribute to the development of local self-government and building a sustainable future for our cities.
