An International Forum has started at the City Hall with the participation of 200 delegates from 20 countries

The International Forum of BRICS+ Cities has started today at the Kazan City Hall, with the participation of around 200 representatives from 20 countries, including mayors and deputy mayors. The participants will discuss the creation of an association that will unite municipalities from different countries and future joint projects. Before the official opening, foreign delegates shared with journalists their goals for visiting Kazan and their expectations for the upcoming forum.

The President of the South African Local Government Association, Bheke Stofile, was among the first to support the initiative of the Mayor of Kazan, Ilsur Metshin, to create the BRICS+ Association of Cities and Municipalities

«I am very happy to be in Kazan today. This is my second time in your beautiful city, and I have high hopes for the creation of the cities association at the BRICS countries level. I look forward to this moment and further cooperation hand in hand on all the important issues for our countries, so that we can make a joint contribution to cooperation on all matters,» he said.

  • Bheke Stofile added that today, at the forum, an agreement will be signed between the Russian and South African associations, which will regulate cooperation in the exchange of knowledge and specialists in various fields.
  • A delegation from Ethiopia also arrived in Kazan with the aim of establishing contacts and cooperation.

The forum participants can expect an intense program. Among other events, a discussion session is scheduled, which will be moderated by Margarita Simonyan, the editor-in-chief of Russia Today and the international news agency Rossiya Segodnya. The program also includes the signing of cooperation and sister-city agreements between cities and local government associations, bilateral working meetings, a session titled «Cities of the Future: New Dimensions,» a children’s art exhibition, and much more.
