Ilsur Metshin was appointed chairman of the association during its establishment phase
Today, the BRICS+ Association of Cities and Municipalities was established at the Kazan City Hall. The members of the association adopted the organization’s declaration and elected Ilsur Metshin, the Mayor of Kazan, as the Chairman of the association for its establishment period. During the founding meeting, delegates from various cities and municipal associations shared their vision for the association’s work and expressed their gratitude to the local authorities of the capital of Tatarstan for initiating the creation of the association. The event was attended by more than 200 mayors, deputy mayors, and leaders of municipal associations, representing a population of 2.6 billion people.
Environmental sustainability, cultural exchange, infrastructure development: what will the new association focus on?
«Our goal is to promote the sustainable development of our cities and municipalities, ensuring the well-being and prosperity of residents. We aim to strengthen socio-economic cooperation, exchange experiences, and share best practices in city management. We reaffirm our intention to develop partnership relations between the cities and municipalities of our countries, based on mutual respect, trust, and understanding,» states the declaration.
- The document also emphasizes the participants’ readiness to work together on solving common issues, such as environmental sustainability, cultural exchange, infrastructure development, social protection, and to share best practices.
- The guests of the capital of Tatarstan discussed the declaration. Delegates from India and Turkey expressed their wishes to add additional points to the document. The declaration was adopted in its original form, but at the next meeting, the association members will introduce amendments and changes. «I suggest supporting the current declaration. We will gladly accept any additions from our colleagues that they wish to propose,» emphasized Ilsur Metshin.
