BRICS+ Youth Library Opens at Kazan's School No. 107

Books in various languages were donated by 21 teenagers from 13 countries

Today, the BRICS+ Youth Library was opened at the School No. 107 «Otkrytie» of the Novo-Savinovsky district of Kazan. The new library’s collection is comprised of books in various world languages, brought by 21 participants of the BRICS Youth Festival from 13 countries. Furthermore, a post office was set up at the school for schoolchildren to be able to exchange postcards.

The ceremony began with greetings in the native languages of the BRICS Youth Festival participants, who arrived from 35 municipalities in 13 countries worldwide. The hall gathered 150 young people from Belarus, Brazil, China, Egypt, Ethiopia, India, Indonesia, Iran, Kazakhstan, Russia, South Africa, Turkey and Uzbekistan.

«We are glad that Kazan has become the city that has united 13 countries. Here, cultures, knowledge, and young talents from all over the world have met. As part of the Youth Festival, a BRICS+ Youth Library is being opened today within the walls of School No. 107,» Anastasia Akmayeva, the School No. 107 Principal, said. Senior teachers from the Institute of International Relations, History and Eastern Studies of Kazan Federal University, Tatiana Morozova and Alefe Aprigio, also spoke to the guests.

The BRICS+ Youth Library was opened as a section in the school’s library. The books brought by 21 festival participants, include fiction and non-fiction pieces. For example, participants from Ethiopia donated a book about their country, which covers both tourist attractions and lesser-known places. Guests from India brought the novel «The Goat Life» by Indian writer Benyamin. From Uzbekistan, a collection of works by Uzbek writers and poets found its place on the library shelf. Festival participant Miras from Kazakhstan brought the book «Words of Edification» by the poet-thinker Abay Kunanbaev. «This is a symbol of Kazakh culture and literature. The book is very popular not only in our country but around the world. I hope everyone reads it to the end because it has a deep meaning,» he shared.

A tour of the school was organized for the youngsters. They were told about the Russian education system, including scientific, sports, and creative directions in schools. In the sports halls, the teenagers played basketball, participated in national games, took part in a quiz, and even learned some Tatar words in a language master class.

Additionally, a BRICS post office was opened at School No. 107. The  schoolchildren from around the world will be able to exchange postcards. The library opening ceremony concluded with a group photo.

The BRICS Youth Festival is taking place in the capital of Tatarstan on September 20-28. The 150 participants are staying at the «Molodaya Gvardiya» camp, where an extensive entertainment program has been prepared for them. For instance, on Tuesday they planted 20 blue spruce trees, creating the «Friends of the World» alley.

On the same day, a meeting of the Committee on Youth Policy and Education of the BRICS+ Association of Cities and Municipalities was held at Kazan Federal University, where the idea of creating a schoolchildren’s association was proposed.

The BRICS Youth Olympiad in Mathematics and Informatics was also held in Kazan. The intellectual tournament lasted for two days at Kazan Federal University and included two stages: team and individual.

And today, at the Kazan City Hall, the Mayor of Kazan met with participants of the BRICS Youth Festival. 13 young representatives from different countries shared their impressions of the festival and talked about their vision for the planet’s future.
