As part of the celebration of the centenary of the All India Institute of Local Self-Government (India) and the events of the BRICS+ Association of Cities and Municipalities, a ceremony was held to sign a number of cooperation agreements, establishing new partnership ties between Russian and Indian organizations and cities.

A cooperation agreement was signed between the Association of Volga Cities and the All India Institute of Local Self-Government. The document, signed by the organizations’ representatives, opens up new opportunities for experience exchange in the field of municipal governance, the implementation of joint educational programs and scientific research, as well as the development of professional contacts between specialists in the field of local self-government. The agreement confirmed the mutual desire to deepen cooperation between the municipal structures of Russia and India.

Bilateral agreements on partnership ties were also signed between Russian and Indian cities. Nizhnekamsk — one of the largest industrial centers of the Republic of Tatarstan (Russia) — concluded a friendship agreement with the city of Bareilly, located in the state of Uttar Pradesh (India). The parties agreed to develop contacts in scientific, technical, educational, cultural, humanitarian and economic fields.

The city of Buinsk, also located in the Republic of Tatarstan (Russia), signed a Memorandum with the city of Faridabad, which is part of the National Capital Region of Delhi. The document provides for interaction in the field of local self-government, exchange of experience in addressing issues of improvement, development of social infrastructure, and business support.

Participants of the events noted that the signed agreements are a practical implementation of the cooperation principles embedded in the activities of the BRICS+ Association of Cities and Municipalities, and open up new opportunities for direct contacts between cities.

The signed documents create a foundation for long-term interaction, including the exchange of delegations, implementation of joint projects in the field of urban development, cultural and educational exchanges, as well as the dissemination of best practices in municipal governance. The agreements became an important result of the work accomplished and confirmation of the growing role of inter-municipal cooperation in strengthening ties between BRICS countries.
